Welcome to the Codrington French Webpage!
Bienvenue!

April 30, Duffle Bag theater will be coming to Codrington to present a bilingual satirical performance of Cinderella.

All students that are in core french in Simcoe County start to learn french in Grade four.  At Codrington, our two wonderful french teachers are Mme. Hammacott and Mme. Knapp.  Mme Hammacott teaches the students in Mr. Majovsky, Mrs. Mills-Knapp, Mr. Casselman, Mr. Martin, Mrs. Guthrie and Mrs. Robertson's class. Mme. Knapp teaches the students in Ms. Giffen and Ms. Redmond's class.

Core french is a great way for students to learn a second language. French is very useful when traveling to French locations in Canada and French speaking areas in Europe and even Africa. French can also open doors to many different job opportunities ! In our school, you have the opportunity to  go on a French exchange to Switzerland or France in grade eight! This can help with increasing French vocabulary and  gives the opportunity to experience a  different culture. If you want more information about the exchange, you can visit http://www.iseontario.on.ca/

A great way to improve and learn French is by using Duolingo. Duolingo is a free website and has an app for an Ipod, Smart phone or tablet which is also free! Unlike most French apps, which just have the English and french translations, Duolingo has questions and games.  On Duolingo, you can take a placement test or start at the basics. You can play games to increase your vocabulary and help you with grammar. You unlock different stages by completing the stages beforehand. In each stage you learn new vocabulary and grammar and you can go back to stages and redo them if you need a refresher on the information.  Duolingo helps with not only vocabulary and grammar, but with spelling, comprehension and pronunciation as well. You can also learn other languages if you want to learn a thirds language. The app is free and you can access your account from any computer. At Codrington, we are encouraging students to use this program and most of the feedback is great! Parents can use this app too! The program is aimed at any age group, which is one of the many reasons that the program is so great!  For information about Duolingo, you can visit the website at https://www.duolingo.com/ and/or watch the video below.

Here at Codrington, we award one or two students in each class with the french award. The french award goes to the student(s) who demonstrate the most effort and participation. The award is not given to the student with the best marks, but to the student who is most enthusiastic. For the month of December, the students who received this award were:

Giffen:           Grace S, Morgan D
Redmond:      Linnea S, Claire J
Guthrie:         Zach H
Robertson:    Nigel A
Majovsky:     Liam T
Casselman:   Aidan P
